In 2015 Crash Course released a video “Conflict in Israel and Palestine” in which John Green claims that Zionists have legitimate claim to Palestine, that the colonizer state of Israel has a valid “need to protect their nation,” and that “both sides” need to listen to each other.

Following October 7th he remained silent for three weeks, before quietly releasing a statement on the Nerdfighters subreddit. He address the crash course episode and links to a blog post from "The Times of Israel" which he calls "well considered criticism". That blog post was written by an Israeli high school senior who regurgitated propaganda about how this is a religious war and blamed the suffering of Palestinians on Hamas. He then repeats the claims that Israel is owed the land due as reparations for the Holocaust and antisemitism and repeatedly refers to Hamas as "terrorists." The most he can say in support of Palestine is that bombing children is bad. He makes no call to action and instead simply writes that he's "praying" for peace.

Later on, he edited the reddit post to remove the link to the "The Times of Israel" article. But he continues to double down that Jewish people need to keep the land to themselves, implying that Israel is justified in breaking international law to deny the right of return to Palestinian refugees.
